submitting

When a writer – and I sometimes hesitate to refer to myself as that – submits a piece for review, she becomes so vulnerable.

I’ve seen it with my writer’s group. The feedback has always been encouraging and supportive, but you are still expected to be critiqued.

A girl from my older writer’s room was rejected from a writing class with the same teacher she had before. The teacher told the company that my friend should be referred to another instructor. It’s hard not to take that personally.

But a writer must learn to take criticism for work and not mistake it for any type of attack or reflection on character.
